In Calgary, there are two types of condominium plans; Conventional and Bareland.
Conventional condos are basically a ‘cube’ that exists in space. The unit itself is defined by floors, ceilings, and walls. Apartment style condos are a good example of a conventional unit. It is important to remember that townhouse style units and even detached units could be conventional condos.
Bareland condos are defined as two dimensional units in which the boundaries are survey markers or pins in the ground. The Bareland unit is a land itself. Within the Bareland unit there is the potential for ‘managed property’ which could include nearly anything within the boundary of the unit that the corporation is responsible for as it pertains to maintenance and upkeep.
